| The FDNY proudly recognizes Lieutenant Brian Cotiaux of EMS Special Operations, who was honored by the BIG EAST last night at Madison Square Garden for his courageous and lifesaving actions.
In June 2025, Lieutenant Cotiaux responded to a two-alarm fire in the Bronx when a mayday was transmitted for a seriously injured firefighter inside the building. As the firefighter was removed from the scene, Lieutenant Cotiaux quickly directed members to an awaiting stretcher and immediately began advanced lifesaving care.
Working under intense and emotional conditions, Lieutenant Cotiaux placed the firefighter on oxygen, assisted with breathing, established IV access, and administered emergency medication to treat smoke inhalation. His calm leadership and rapid decision-making helped ensure the firefighter received critical care without delay.
Lieutenant Cotiaux also went on to assist additional firefighters who were injured following a ceiling collapse at the scene. Because of the swift and decisive actions taken by Lieutenant Cotiaux and the members operating alongside him, the injured firefighters made a full recovery.
